Brandon Webb continues his hot-streak tonight. Geoff Grammer shared the following on MLB.com.
PHOENIX -- According to Brandon Webb, his white-hot start to the season has as much or more to do with those around him as anything he did this offseason.
With a 1.86 ERA and a 4-0 record heading into Tuesday's game with the San Francisco Giants, Webb looks to become baseball's first five-game winner, while also extending the D-backs' lead in the National League West.
To do so, Webb would be more than grateful for the same type of help from the D-backs' bats that the team has gotten this season.
"Everything has been clicking right now," Webb said. "We've been getting a lot of runs, and that just takes all the pressure off a pitcher and it makes it real nice going out there with all the run support."
As for whether he changed anything this offseason that would explain such a hot start, he and catcher Chris Snyder have different opinions.
"I basically do the exact same thing each offseason," Webb said. "Nothing really any different this year, it's the way baseball is. You have good games and you have bad games. I know it isn't going to go like this all year."
Snyder said Webb did concentrate on one thing in particular this offseason.
"The only thing he tackled this offseason was a plate of ribs," Snyder said.
As for Webb's on-field success, Snyder was a little more complimentary.
"Webby's Webby. He's one of the top pitchers in the game and he's that way for a reason," Snyder said. "He just knows how to pitch. ... He's that guy that knows he's good and does his thing in the offseason. Every year, I think he learns a little more about what his stuff does and it makes him that much better."
Pitching matchup
ARI: RHP Brandon Webb (4-0, 1.86 ERA)Webb is looking to become the first pitcher to win five games this season and is looking to beat the D-backs' NL West Division rivals for the second straight outing. On Wednesday, Webb struck out five Giants at AT&T Park, allowing just one earned run off three hits in eight innings.
SF: LHP Barry Zito (0-4, 4.50 ERA)Zito has had back-to-back quality starts, but is still looking to get things going this season and is hoping not to become MLB's first with five losses. In his last outing, Wednesday against the Diamondbacks in San Francisco, Zito allowed five hits and three earned runs in six innings.
